The last name "andstedt" is it swedish?
It doesn't sound very Swedish (I'm Swedish), even if it could pass as a "normal" name if you encountered it in Sweden, since there are quite many family names ending with -stedt in Sweden. However, I checked the official name statistics from the Statistics Sweden's website, and found there are no Andstedts living in Sweden.
The last name "andstedt" is it swedish?
Andstedt appears to be a variant of Anstedt, and originated in Germany.
Anstett
Last name origins %26amp; meanings:
South German: from the medieval German personal name Anstett. This is a vernacular derivative of Greek Anastasios (see Anastasio).
South German: habitational name for someone from Anstedt in Lower Saxony
Ansted
Last name origins %26amp; meanings:
German: variant of Anstett.
English: variant of Anstead.
Reply:The exact origin of a NAME is not always the same as where your family or ancestry comes from.
Using just your exact spelling, one lady did immigrate from Sweden. However, the immigration lists are very limited and do not include everyone who ever came to the US. You can't assume that there are not alternate spellings. Anstedt is a name in the US pre 1880.. and per census records, there are several persons, with birth places shown in Baden, Germany, Alsace (France but on German border).
It is NOT POSSIBLE to assume by a name, where a person or his/ her ancestors come from, unless you actually locate that person (YOUR ancestor) and determine their place of birth. Another source of confusion is often that you may have Swedish ancestry through your family, but the Swedish part may well be through a female ancestor. Nothing keeps a Swedish person from marrying someone who is German (or anything else).
IF you have a particular ancestor that you want to know about, I encourage you to post the person with some details, so someone can look them up in the census for you.

Help naming a Swedish Warmblood gelding?
We just got an abuses Swedish Warmblood gelding last night that had been abused and he has no name!!!!!!!!!! He is atleast 17 hh and has a very sweet face. I am going to start riding him because he has a back problem and needs a light rider... What should we call him (show and barn names)
He is also an eventer, so English discipline is what we will show in.
He is also a dark DARK bay
Help naming a Swedish Warmblood gelding?
I've known two Swedish Warmbloods, one looked a lot like yours (don't worry, not the same horse, his owners were too sweet to him and would never do a thing like that) and another that doesn't look like yours. The one that looked like yours was named Hatari and was actually from Sweden, so that could work. The other one is named Prism. Those could be both show and barn names.
I would go with a Swedish theme, oh and Swiss Cheese is actually from Switzerland so that wouldn't work out anyways. Nor would Swedish Fish, although they are awesome!!
The national stud of the Swedish Warmblood is called Flyinge, and after finding out the Swedish word for horse (h盲st) you could put that together and make "Flyinge H盲st" since you are an event rider that would be perfect to hear Flyinge H盲st over the loudspeakers as your galloping through the cross country course! Not sure of a barn name, perhaps Flyinge or H盲st.
ABBA could be another option. ABBA was a really popular band from Sweden in the late 70s, early 80s and many people would recognize the name and know where you got it from.
Reply:I really like the name "Wurlitzer". It's very sophisticated. :) My future school's riding team has a horse named Wurlitzer, and they use it for both his show name and his barn name. If you want something simpler for the barn, however, you could choose any name with a "w": Willy, etc, or choose something completely unrelated.
You might also like to look up Swedish names on the internet and see if you like any of them (even if it's just for his show name). Baby name books are helpful as well.
I'm thrilled to hear that you've adopted a previously abused horse- make sure he gets lots of love! Good luck with your new baby! :)
Reply:I love Swedish Warmbloods! i haven't had the privilege of owning one, but I have ridden one. Try to get to know his personality. However, I love the name Fly Boy (he is an eventer and will be flying!) You could name him a Swedish name such as Adolphus (noble wolf) or Aron (illuminated), Davin (pride of the Finn) Gabriel (strength from God)......there are more on this site:

hope this helps!
good luck with your new baby!
Reply:Don't use a name that resembles how the horse looks, give him a confident name that you would be proud of :) what about Gizmo (Give It A Go) i don't know i just thought about that name and i sort of like it lol i really hope this helps :) just don't resemble looks, maybe do the personality
Reply:Inspector Gadget :) if i had a boy horse i would name it that. His barn name would be Iggy. Kinda like Bob Marley's son Ziggy haha.
I just really like that name so i can say Go go gadget.... canter, jump, trot, ect.
Ha good luck.

Trying to find name of Swedish(?) jazz/rock guitar hero type band. Could be Jan something?
He was a superb pryrotechnic and great jazz guitarist who I think appeared on Top of the Pops at least once when his band had a single in the charts back in the late '70s or early ''80s. Sorry I can't remember any more than that.
As good as Clapton, Satriani etc.

You need to enter the name and then look carefully through the numerous listings, as to where persons with the name come from. There are a lot.. and none of them that I saw, come from either Norway or Sweden.
The real answer is that a name does not always come from one place... and if Siri is your last name, and it WAS from Norway.. that still would not mean that YOU are Norwegian. Many people grow up, hearing that they have such and such a heritage.. only to find out that it mainly comes from their mom's side of the family (which would be a different name to start with).
The ONLY correct way to find out, is to trace the person back to his ancestor's place of birth.

Can you name the big 4 of the Swedish football League?
Without looking it up
Gothenburg, Malmo, Helsingborg %26amp; Trelleborg
I'll even point them out on a map for ya!!
Reply:Are you joking?
Sweden gave some of the best players and an excelent coach - Sven Goran Ericksson - to the football!
Let me remember some that played in Benfica (my club): Stromberg (i bet even Smarty doesn't know this...), Mats Magnunsson, Jonas Thern, Stefan Schwarz, Anderson. (and Sven: lead Benfica to 4 national titles and 2 finals in UEFA and Champions League Cup...)
Reply:now what Smarty said was correct so no point in repeating that anyways
so let me make a joke instead
do they even have a league over there?
(all i could come up with rain is falling kinda sleepy)
Reply:Ikea and ABBA?
Who watches the Swedish football league anyway?Apart from Sir Smarty.

Title Ingenting

I Hagnestahill blinkar TV-ljusen
Jag g枚r vad jag kan
Dr枚mmer mig bort
I Hagnestahill
Bland dem identiska husen
Rycker vi till
Reklamen avbryts f枚r sport
Ingenting
F枚rst kom ingenting
Sen kom ingenting
Sen kom ingenting
Men ingenting 盲r (ingenting, inget, inget)
Ja, ingenting
Dem j盲vlarna tog oss en efter en
Dem lj枚g och bedrog oss med sanningen
Dem j盲vlarna tog min 盲lskling d盲r
Fr氓n kr枚net av kullen kan jag se
Min f枚rlorade v盲rld
Jag ska g枚ra n氓nting
Jag ska sl氓 er med h盲pnad
G氓 枚ver en gr盲ns
Jag ska bryta mig ut
Jag 盲lskar dig s氓
Som att vara bev盲pnad
Och under bel盲gring
Kan jag skjuta dig ut
Ingenting
F枚rst kom ingenting
Sen kom ingenting
Sen kom ingenting
Men ingenting 盲r (ingenting, inget, inget)

In Hagnestahill the TV lights are blinking
I do what I can
I dream away
In Hagnestahill
Among the identical houses
We twitch when
Commercials are interrupted by sports
(chorus)
Nothing
First there was nothing
Then there was nothing
Then there was nothing
But nothing is (nothing, nothing, nothing)
Yes, nothing
De bastards took us one by one
They lied and decieved us with the truth
The bastard took my darling there
From the top och the hill I can see
my lost world
(end chorus)
I will do something
I will leave you astounded
Cross a line
I will break out
I love you like
being armed
And under siege
I can shoot you out

Can " Berry" be a swedish last name?
Is the last name " Berry" only an American last name?
I need to know if it can be an swedish last name.
Can " Berry" be a swedish last name?
.
Dear Coco,
I have spent many years Sweden and can only tell you what my feeling is.
It would not be a "common" (q.v.) name, but why not? Swedes take "new" names all the time. Very few Swedish people even have the name(s) that they did 3 or 4 generations ago.
150 years ago most Swedes had names like Sven(s)son, Sven(s)dauter (eg.: Sven's Daughter) and such.
Almost all Swedish names, now-a-days, that are not like the above are either names that are "taken" or those of Immigrants.
So, "Berry" could be, but probably is not Swedish.
I am not sure it is ONLY American, thou.
Has this helped?

NOBODY SHOULD NAME THEIR BABY METALLICA... Swedish or NOT!
Reply:I was wondering this myself.....Does anyone remember when that metal shop tried to name themselves Metallika (notice spelling) and the band sued them for taking their name? I think the band is paying the Swedish government cold hard cash to keep from defamating their name again. Its always a conspiracy. But anywho, I think if they want to name their kid that, then they have the right to. But they best know their kid is going to hate them later on. Sad.

Name of a swedish designers store?
I just saw Anthony Bourdain麓s tv show at Discovery home and health (No Reservations); he was at Sweden, and he showed a place where only designers sell their things. It麓s name was someting like "designer outlet", but the first letter of the second word is a different one, like EUTLET (so, DESIGNER EUTLET).
Does somebody know that name? I would like to try and check if there exists a web page of that shop.
Hope somebody helps me!
Thanx in advance!

Name Swedish movie from late 70's with a bunch of students at a pool party.?
As you might expect it had plenty of nudity, but I remember it being a decent movie and it is driving me crazy that I can't locate it.
I remember a shy student on a diving board... but then it sort of fades away now that it has been probably close to 30 years since I watched it.
I checked IMDB, but no luck there.

There were a large number of these type of films back in the '70s. Standard drive-in fare. The ones I remember titles of are "Swedish Fly Girls" and "Dagmar's Hotpants". Dusk to Dawn fare.

Does anybody know if "Honsey" is Swedish last name?
I doubt it. I find people named Honsey in the Midwest and Canada, and around London. Probably related to the old parish and borough of Honsey in North-London.
http://www.ancestry.co.uk/facts/Honsey-f...
"It includes the areas known as Hornsey Village, Hornsey Vale, Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Highgate and part of Kenwood, Stroud Green and part of Finsbury Park, Bounds Green and adjoining areas within Hornsey and Wood Green Parliamentary constituency including Wood Green, Harringay, West Green and Tottenham."
Most of the area was developed since Edwardian times, but the tower of the original parish church still stands in its ancient graveyard in Hornsey High Street. Other notable historic places include Hornsey Town Hall, Cromwell House, and the world-famous Alexandra Palace, birthplace of television."
"Hornsey parish formed part of Middlesex, and its successor Hornsey Borough (centred at Hornsey Town Hall in Crouch End) remained just outside the old London County Council. Since 1964, Hornsey has been part of the London Borough of Haringey."

Does anybody know if "Honsey" is Swedish last name?
I don't think so. Most Swedish last names ends with -son or -lund.

Irish, Scottish, or Swedish name?
Is the surname Loftin Irish, Scottish, or Swedish?
Irish, Scottish, or Swedish name?
Surname: Loftin
Recorded in the spellings of Loftin, Lofton and Lofting, this is a surname of English origins. It is locational and originates from a now "lost" medieval village probably called "Loftun" or similar, the name translating as the house with an upper floor, at a time when few had them. The derivation is from the Olde English and Norse pre 7th century word "lopthuis". What is certain is that no such place or anything quite like it in spelling, is recorded in any known gazetter of the past two hundred years. This in itself is unusual, but not unique. It is known that at least three thousand, and possibly as many as seven thousand British Isles surnames originate from now "lost" places, of which the only public reminder of their existence in the 20th century, is the surviving surname. Early examples of the surname taken from surviving church registers of the diocese of Greater London include: Thomas Lofton at St. Paul's cathedral in the city of London in 1629, and Mary Lofting, at St Brides church, Fleet Street, in 1719. The first recorded spelling of the family name is shown to be that of Edmund Loffton. This was dated February 25th 1619, when he was a witness at St. Margaret's church, Westminster, during the reign of King James I of England and VI of Scotland, 1603 - 1625.

Historically, names have served as a fingerprint of life, perhaps a basic clue to one's personality. Knowledge of naming practices in our ancestral country of origin can help us trace our respective families back to a village or a place, tell us their occupation, or it can give us an idea about what our ancestors looked like. The intriguing story of surnames dates back thousands of years. How and where they began, what their original meanings were, and their various spellings, is called the study of onomastics.
Reply:According to www.houseofnames.com, it's English.
Reply:Whether the name comes from England, Ireland or Brazil.. the nationality will be dependent on the PERSON.
Names are not limited to originating in only one place.

I am looking for the name of a swedish song, around 1993/4 ?
Please excuse the spelling but I think it starts with the opening line "de var tre Evige sekunden" with the chorus in swedish something like "who stole the stars that I can only see in your eyes?" It was a female singer and definitely out before 1995

My last name is swedish(Deras) does that mean i have swedish in my blood?
Whoever told you that Deras "is a Swedish name", won't appreciate the factual answer. Using several sources (www.familysearch.org, census records from ancestry.com), the name appears from many places. I find Mexico, England, Germany, Norway, Hungary.. and others.
Most persons get trapped in the idea that a name has ONE ancient origin, when the reality is that names appear in different places, and it is inaccurate to say that any one of those can be proven as the origin/ source. With some exceptions, few names will be "just" French, German, English.. whatever.
IF your ancestor with this name, does actually come from Sweden, then his background is Swedish (and part of yours). But, you still have to go back from that.. since HIS ancestry could be from elsewhere. It can ALSO be that what you think of as your Deras "family" is broader than that.. ie gr grandpa Deras and his wife (down to children) is Swedish, but through the wife..remember, she is not a Deras by birth.
End of it.. you do not know what your heritage really is, by any surname. You HAVE to trace the individual persons.
My last name is swedish(Deras) does that mean i have swedish in my blood?
Potentially. It would only be so if you had a direct family member who came from Sweden and IS related to you, you might find that your great-great grandfather was a Swede or maybe he wasn't a Swede and he only had a Swedish stepfather.
But it is very complicated, you might as well just say you are until you find further proof.
Reply:Usually, yes. If your surname is Swedish, then that means that someone along your lines either liked Swedish names or is of Swedish descent. It's also possible that they moved to Sweden and wanted to fit in.
Reply:I found this on www.ancestry.com for you,
Deras Name Meaning and History
Galician: probably a habitational name for someone from a place in A Coru帽a province called Ras, possibly from a plural of Galician ra 鈥榝rog鈥? .
Hope this helps.
Reply:As a longtime genealogist of Scandinavian heritage, I'd be very surprised if Deras is a Swedish surname. A previous poster has suggested it is Galician (an old term for Austrian), which seems more likely.
Reply:You can always get a DNA test that hopefully someone won't tamper with and have it say you are from India but with Brit paternal ancestry even though that makes absolutely no sense but hey, there are DNA tests now.
Reply:The simple answer is NO. There is a long, drawn-out explanation of a multitude of reasons, but at this hour, I do not feel like going into that.
Reply:I assume you mean Swedish ancestry, rather than a communicable disease.... Is Deras a Swedish name?
Reply:it could-maybe you should explore your family tree?

How do you spell the Swedish name Switzenburg?
looking for someone with that last name in Minnesota - but forgot the proper spelling
How do you spell the Swedish name Switzenburg?
Switzenburg is not a Swedish name at all, I'm afraid. It sounds like a German, Austrian or Swiss name (Switzenburg or Switzenberg, or maybe Switzer- ).
-berg is a common Swedish surname suffix, but not Switzen- or anything that sounds like it.

What album is the song Saskia on. The artist is a Swedish man by the name of Cornelis Vreeswijk.?
I don't know where you are located. If you are in Sweden it is easier to find CD albums by Cornelis Vreeswijk containing the song Saskia.
Cornelis Vreeswijk was originally from holland and moved to Sweden when he was 12 or 13. I just watched a great documentary about his life and music several motnhs ago here in Sweden.
If you are not in Sweden I know that you can buy Cornelis Vreeswijk's album "Tio Vackra Visor" (the title means "10 beautiful ballads") internationally. Here is a link:

Name of walk in shower with spray nozzles on side and one above head. Think it's called Swedish?
We're doing a bathroom remodel and have walked into some of the million dollar homes that have tiled walk in showers that have the spray nozzles on the sides as well as the showerhead that is above your head. I think they are called Swiss or Swedish showers but can't find anything to verify that so I can tell the builder what we're looking for. Can anyone help?

All the top companys do these showers. Kohler is a big name but any bath fixture company offers these types of showers. Do your homework by going to a Home Depot, Home Expo or Lowes. We have a 5 ft. shower with two heads that is easy enough to do but I think what you are looking for is the multiple sprays from a surround feature that is on a select system. Again, there isn't a name for it. Just ask for what you want at any of the above mentioned and they will direct you to what you need. Go to home shows. They show these showers all the time. Look on line for surround showers. I'm sure you will find something there as well.

What does the name "Ibrahimovic" mean in Swedish?
I know Knutson means "son of Knut" and Jurgenson means "son of Jurgen"...... what does "Ibrahimovic" mean in Swedish?
What does the name "Ibrahimovic" mean in Swedish?
His father is Bosnian and mother Croatian (or other way around). Anywho his blood is 0% Swedish lol
Reply:Ibrahimovic might be a patronimic name, meaning his fathers name is Ibrahim (arabic name for Abraham). If it's a surname, the meaning is the same - some of his far relative's name was Ibrahim, and then his offsprings made it as a surname.
Reply:It means 'son of Ibrahim' but iinstead of having 'sson' like the Swedish, or 'sen' like the Norweigian, or 'chenko' like the Russians he has 'ic' which is the same

How would you say the last name, Lindqvist? I'm pretty should it is swedish or dutch if that helps?
Yeah.. it's Swedish and should be pronounced Lind-kvist and there is supposed to be a v, not a u like the rest of these guys says.. If anything the only unusual thing about that name is that it is spelled with a q not a k.
How would you say the last name, Lindqvist? I'm pretty should it is swedish or dutch if that helps?
It's Swedish, and it's pronounced "Lind-kvist"
Addition: I just double checked: Kate is right; the usual spelling is "Lindquist", but it is pronounced as I have described above.
Reply:Just like it is spelled, except there is no v in the name....it's a u.
And it's Swedish.
Reply:its definetely swedish...but i didnt get ur question right, its a bit confusing :))

What does the Swedish name Jan translate to in English.?
I have an ancestor named Jan in Sweden and I would like to know his name in English.
What does the Swedish name Jan translate to in English.?
Jan has been used in Sweden since the 17th century, and originates from the name Jahan, which in turn is an older version of the German name Johann. Johann is of course short for Johannes (John in English). Johannes is a Latinized form of the Greek Ioannes (New Testament), which is a contracted form of the Hebrew name Jochanan meaning 'God is gracious'.
Other variants of Johannes: Jean, Jon, J枚ns, Juan, Ian, Ivan, Giovanni, Hans, Jens, Juha, Jussi - and lots and lots of more names (see link below).
So Jan, John, Ian etc are all just different versions of Jochanan.
Reply:John
Reply:It's John.
Reply:I think in Swedish Johann is John actually. Jan would be Ian.
Reply:Certainly, the Swedish JAN is JOHN in English !
100% No doubt about !!!
Reply:In some European languages, Jan would equal the English name of John.

What are Swedish diminutives? (i.e. in English we add -y or -ie to names/words to make them cute)?
In English we often call kids Johnny instead of John, Charlie instead of Charles, etc. I'm looking for the Swedish equivalent.
What are Swedish diminutives? (i.e. in English we add -y or -ie to names/words to make them cute)?
.
When it comes to names, it is basically the same in Swedish. John is Johnnie(or y). Peter is "Pelle". Sven is "Svene". Erik is "Rikie" and such. There are so many variations. I wish I knew a link that would be helpful to you.
"is", pronounced "ese" in English is the most common one.
For example:
Good(is) = Good Things = Candy
B盲st(is) = Best (is) = Best Friend
Dag(is) = Day (is) = Pre-School
So, "IS" really IS the most well known and used!
Good Luck!

The best I could do for English is as follows:
Reeve, Reeves
Rudge, Rudges (Ruidge, Roidge, Rutdge, Rutge, Rudych, Rutch, Rutche, Ruitge)
Rivers
That is probably due to the multitude of names. I searched several sites and it was just impossible. So, I really do suggest that you check out some geneology sites. I know of several where I've seen a list of names to select from. You would just have to pull the "R" ones. Try Rootsweb.com or FamilytreeDNA.com You might be able to move around one of those sites to find a list. I belong to a forum called the Gathering of the Scottish Clans. It might be part of a larger forum which would include English names. Good luck.

Good luck.

What name does this Swedish player use on his jersey?
Magnus P盲盲j盲rvi-Svensson (or Svensson-P盲盲j盲rvi)
Hyphenated names aren't recognised anymore in Sweden so one must be used as a middle name. I'm just wondering which one it is?
Must suck having to pick only one. :/
What name does this Swedish player use on his jersey?
At the last 2 World Juniors, the entire hyphenated name has been written on his jersey.
Reply:I'm Swedish and I have a very long name, Not hyphened tho, and I cant fit it on any of my jerseys. it always curves down.
I know what hes going through.

How comeDara Torres has a hispanic last name but she looks Swedish?
The name does not necessarily mean you are Hispanic, you know. How about a player like, David Lee, he has a Korean last name but he is white.

She's married, maybe that's not her maiden name.

What is a really awesome Swedish name for a boy? And how do you prononse it?
I like Sven and Horst, both pronounced as they look. But here's a list:
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:cSO2...
What is a really awesome Swedish name for a boy? And how do you prononse it?
Lars, Niels (neehls), Olaf, Sven, Stefan (stay fun), Kristian, Leif (leef).
Reply:Odin! (pronounced O' din) Chief god of Norse mythology.
Reply:Heinz
Reply:magnus
Reply:Nicklas (same as in english) und Kjiell /khiel/
Reply:Umm, Heinz and Shemp are NOT Swedish in any way. I don't know what you think is awesome, like, do you mean old norse names or modern ones? Some Swedish names are Johan (Io-haan), Anders (Aandesch), Mattias (Matteeas), Bj枚rn (脰 is pronounces like ea in "learn"), H氓kan (氓 is pronounced like o in "morning"), Axel, Emil (E-meel), Olof (O-lof), Gustav (Gu-staav), Nils (Neels) and so on...
Jas 77 suggested Kjiell but I think she means Kjell (that's my dad's name :D ). It's pronunced like "shell".
Reply:it depends on the first and last name... they have to rhyme somehow! avoid the strange associations!

What is the exact name of the swedish comittee for refugees?
I should write a letter to this comittee, but I am not sure about the name that should addressed
What is the exact name of the swedish comittee for refugees?
The agency you want is the Swedish National Migration Board
according to this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Nat...
The agency's website is at:
http://www.migrationsverket.se/
but it is (understandably) in Swedish. You will find the address for the agency there, however, just below the agency name.
Here is the contact information:
601 70 Norrk枚ping 路 Tel 011-15 60 00 路 Fax 011-10 81 55 路 E-post: migrationsverket@migrationsverket.se
I see that the address doesn't include the city. I'd use the capitol city for that.
Good luck to you.

Appreciate it if someone can tell me the name of a swedish song?
The song is played by the swedish royal guards when they exchange duties in front of the royal palace in Stockholm. It is said that the song is composed to commemorate the Swedish king who died in the war between Sweden and Norway. It was released for the first time when the corpse of the king was sent back to Sweden.

To start with Yana and Krysta aren't really Polish.
Janina is Polish. I used to know two Yanas but they were both from Bulgaria. Anyway I agree it's a lovely name.
We have Krystyna here and short for it is Krysia.
As for my choice:
Anna/Ania
Daria
Aga (short for Agnieszka)
Ala (short for Alicja)
Magda
Kinga
Ola (short for Olga or Aleksandra)
Asia (short for Joanna)
Dominika
Weronika
Renata
Beata
Kasia/Kaja (Kaya)
Paulina
Dorota
Sylwia
Nina
I know that most of them are rather international but I guess the short versions sound kinda original and rather sweet because they are usually used referring to children or someone you are close to.
You should be able to choose from all the names mentioned by all of us,

How would you pronounce this Swedish name?
Pelle Almqvist
How would you pronounce this Swedish name?
PEL-le - "pel" like in pellet + "le" like in let
ALM-kvist - "al" like the "ul" in Ulster + m + k + "vist" like in vista
Actually, all four syllables are stressed in standard Swedish, but there are two different kinds of melodic stress which are extremely difficult to reproduce for a non-native speaker (my wife, for example ...). If you instead stick with the first stress in each word you will sound more like a Finland Swedish or Northern Swedish speaker, which is also ok. ;)
Reply:PELL-e (short e sound, as in gem) ALM-kvist
The primary and secondary accent in Swedish is not much different, truthfully. That's one thing that gives them that sing-song sound. It's more like a 55-45 split, unlike English which has clearly delineated primary and secondary accents. In other words, don't drop off too much on the second syllable.
Reply:In IPA: ['p蓻l蓻 'almkv瑟st]

"chefjeff" is almost right, I ama former chef and did some work in Sweden, Swedish meatballs true have a creamy mushroom based sauce with a bit of cardamon, nutmeg and dill in the sauce sometimes a splash of sour cream, the meatballs themselves are not all beef but a beef and pork combo, with sauteed onion in them, bread crumbs, a bit of seasoning, an egg, milk and then made into balls and either pan fried or baked, the sauce is made separately, IKEA makes a nice packaged one I like but I make the sauce myself a quick one is fine with tinned mushroom soup, canned sliced mushrooms, cream or milk and a few spices over the store bought meatballs.
How did swedish meatballs get their name? What makes them different than regular meatballs?
Its all about the sauce. Cream gravy with beef stock. Vs. Marinara sauce or Carbonara sauce which is Italian or sweet and sour sauce which is chinese.

Can anyone tell me whats the name of the swedish kissing couple dolls?
its really cute figurines with frills ,they r wearing wooden clogs . i know its from amsterdam but i dont know its name . can anyone please help me out .
thanks
Can anyone tell me whats the name of the swedish kissing couple dolls?
The figures are Dutch (not Swedish) They come from the Netherlands and many of them are Delftware. People often refer to them as the Dutch boy and girl kissing or "First kiss". The boy and girl usually have their hand behind their backs. Their dress is traditional Dutch clothing. Wooden clogs are traditonal footwear for Holland / the Netherland.
You can see some images here of the figurines:

Where can I find out the Swedish name day for Lina?
I have a friend that is in the US and she is from Sweden. When is that name day or is there a website that has a listing.
Where can I find out the Swedish name day for Lina?
The name Lina had a place in the official Swedish name day list from 1988 to 2000, first on January 20th (like in Norway), later on May 20th. From 2001 the name is removed from the list altogether.
I suppose you can still celebrate her on May 20th, because that's the name day of Karolina, from which the name Lina might be derived.
In Finland they also have a Swedish name list (because they have a very old, influential Swedish-speaking minority, and there since 1995 Lina is celebrated on June 22nd, together with Paula and Paulina.
I don't know where the theory about September 23rd came from - that has been the day of Tekla for the last 400 Centuries (since 1993 together with Tea).
Reply:According to some websites with Scandinavian name days, name day for Lina is on January 20th.
i.e. here is a list - http://www.rusaanes.no/aron/default.aspx...

Please tell me how to read names of Swedish scientists in Swedish.?
They are:
Hugo Gyld茅n
Anders Lindstedt
Edvard Phragm茅n
Thank you in advance,
Please tell me how to read names of Swedish scientists in Swedish.?
Hugo = Hoo'go - stress on first vowel. The 'u' in Hugo is a specifically Swedish vowel sound, and impossible to describe, but "oo" will do fine.
Gylld茅n = Yilldey麓n - stress on last wovel; the 茅 pronounced like the French 茅 or -ez - like in "Caf茅; Allez!" . The y in Gylld茅n has no English correspondence. It's like a mix of i and u, and very close to the German 眉 as in "f眉r". Like in saying "fill" while
trying to make it sound a bit like "full"!
Anders = Un'desh - 'Un' like in 'run'
Lindstedt = Lind'stet
main stress on first vowels in both names, but the second vowels are not swallowed - there is a slight emphasis on them, too
Edvard = Ed'vud - stress on first vowel, 'vud' to rhyme with 'mud'
Phragm茅n = Frugmee麓n - stress on last vowel, 'frug' to ryme with 'hug'
For sound samples, especially of the y and u sounds, go to http://www2.hhs.se/isa/swedish/chap9.htm... ! "U" in "Hugo" is long, like in the example "ut" on that page". "Y" in Gylld茅n is short, like the example "mycket" on the same page. "脡" in Gylld茅n and Phragm茅n is long, like the example heta on the same page.
Reply:Hugo (Who-Go) Gyld茅n (Gill-Den)
Anders (And-Ers) Lindstedt (Lend-Sted-T)
Edvard (Ed-Vard) Phragm茅n (Frag-Men)
